Dr. Steven S. Leblang is the Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program.  Dr. Leblang received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in 1984. After his residency, Dr. Leblang spent four years in Eastern North Carolina performing service for the National Health Service Corps and two years in solo private practice in Gainesville, Florida. He joined our program in 1990 as an Associate Director and became Director in September 2003. Dr. Leblang and his wife, Linda, have two daughters, Sarah and Stefanie.

 

 

Joy N. Elliott, D.O. is the Director of the Osteopathic Residency.  Dr. Elliott received her D.O. degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia and completed her residency training with the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in 2005.  Prior to joining our program in 2006, Dr. Elliott spent a year in Blacksburg, VA on the faculty at VCOM.  Her husband Dan works in a Sports Medicine practice in Newport News.  They have two daughters, Hannah and Molly.

 

 

Dr. Charles O. Frazier received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia. He completed his Family Medicine Residency with the Charleston Naval Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, where he was chief resident 1991-92. After his residency, he and his wife Lisa went to Newport, Rhode Island, where he completed his obligation to the Navy in September 1994. He joined our program in October 1994 and became Director in October of 1997. In September 2003, Dr. Frazier became Director of Medical Informatics for Riverside Health System and is still active with the residency program. Dr. Frazier's wife Lisa is a Pharm. D. They have three sons, Evan, Cole, and Bryce.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Jacob E. Jones is an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Jones received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland. He came to us from Tri-County Medical Corporation in Aylett, Virginia, where he provided care to a rural population for eight years. He and his wife Barbara have 3 daughters -- Elizabeth, Emma, and Meredith -- and one loud mouthed beagle named Shiloh.

 

 

 

Dr. Jon J. Kaminer is an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Kaminer received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia, and completed his residency training in the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in 1998. Dr. Kaminer worked at the Riverside Express Care prior to joining the program in July 2000. Dr. Kaminer's wife Kim, is a local Emergency Room physician. They have two sons, Jacob and Brandon and one daughter Taylor.  During football season, Dr. Kaminer can be reached in Charlottesville - Wahoowa!!!!

 

 

Dr. Michael R. Lustig is an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Lustig received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia, and completed his residency training at the Harrisburg Family Medicine Residency Program in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was chief resident 1989-90. After completing his residency program at Harrisburg, Dr. Lustig stayed on and became a faculty member. Dr. Lustig joined the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in 1991. Dr. Lustig's wife, Dr. Dana Bachtell, is also a board certified family practitioner and works in Hampton. They have a son, Matthew,  a daughter, Drew, and a Bernese Mountain Dog, Harley.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Sharon Petitjean is an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program, with her primary role being a Geriatrician at The Gardens of Warwick Forest (formerly known as Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. In addition, in 2007 Dr. Petitjean also became Director of PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). Dr. Petitjean received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio. She completed her training in the Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in 1991. After graduation, Dr. Petitjean went to the University of Cincinnati for a Geriatrics Fellowship, which she completed in 1993. After completion, she remained at the University of Cincinnati where she was an Associate Professor for Family Medicine. Dr. Petitjean joined Riverside Family Medicine in January 1995. Dr. Petitjean has three sons, Nicholas, Wesley, and Ryan.  Dr. Petitjean has an interest in Integrative Medicine.

 

 

Dr. Susan H. Satchwell is an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Satchwell received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She completed her Family Medicine training at the Chesterfield Family Medicine Residency Program. She spent two years in private practice in Roanoke, Virginia, prior to joining the program in 1980.  Dr. Satchwell enjoys knitting, is a terrific cook, and is scuba certified.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Verneeta Williams arrived at Riverside in August 1999. Dr. Williams received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She completed her Family Medicine training at the Lancaster General Hospital Residency Program in Pennsylvania and a two year fellowship in Obstetrics at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. While she is an absolute OB machine, she is also a musician playing the keyboard, organ and performs harp at weddings, church functions and special events.  She is the Minister of Music at her church and has even played the drums and bongos!

 

 

G. Stanley Mitchell, Jr.. M.D., is the Director Emeritus of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Mitchell received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine as a charter member and charter fellow of the American Board of Family Practice. He was Director of the Program since its inception in 1971 until January 1991, when he became Director of Geriatrics for the Residency Program. Dr. Mitchell retired January 1995. Dr. Mitchell and his wife Connie have one son Mitch, two daughters Jody and Julie, and five grandchildren.
